Update on Mom-half way through Chemo
Good Morning Friends! It’s been a while since i’ve posted an update on mom and figured it’s time to update everyone again :) Wednesday she went in for her 3rd treatment bringing her to her half-way mark through her chemo treatments!
The month of September following her first and second chemo treatment left her feeling very tired but overall considerably well. After her treatments on Wednesdays she goes into the hospital again the following day and gets a shot (to stimulate the white blood cells) and after that is usually when she starts feeling unwell and wants to just lay around Saturday and Sunday.
“ I have numbness in my feet, the tips of my fingers and around my mouth and that’s why they’ve made the decision to reduce the dose 20% last time and again a little more than 20% this time. It’s affecting my vision as well, it’s like white blotches across my vision” mom says as she explains to me the physical repercussions of the chemo treatments.
Overall the last two treatments have not been anything like that first initial treatment although each treatments leaves her feeling wiped out and very tired.
After a couple weeks moms hair started falling out in clumps and she asked Sue Ann to help her cut off what was left. “ It was such a mess, there was hair everywhere, on my pillow, in my brush and we ended up just cutting off what was left, but it don’t take me long to shower anymore” she say’s as she laughs and ponders the benefits of having no hair.
Even though she’s weak and can’t walk very long she still enjoys getting on her stationary bike most mornings and is trying to keep the muscle built up in her legs.
When I asked if there’s anything else she would like to add to this update she replied:
“I’m just walking day by day with the mercy and peace of God”.
It’s hard to see mom suffer and to see the physical evidence of the cruel reality of cancer but we are so hopeful that a full recovery is in mom’s future and she’ll be back to her spry self before we know it!
Thank you every one for your thoughts and prayers and continued support for mom through this journey.
Sincerely,
Carrie
